Breast cancer patient
Evaluating treatment options
Added Jan 27, 2020I am going through Chemo right now for 4 cycles in FL. I used the Digicap for my forth treatment and everything went fine. I was able to stand the cold knowing that I probably wouldn’t lose my hair. Wrong. I followed all the instructions to a “T” and my hair all fell out on day 15. I had the rest shaved off. I would have kept paying the hi…

From My Diagnosis To Being A Survivor
What I've learned
Added Jan 8, 2020My cancer journey starts out most likely the way many cancer victims start. There is nothing comparable to people hearing the terrible phrase “You have cancer”. I was numb for weeks, it seemed so surreal.
When I was first diagnosed with uterine cancer, I purposed myself to learn about staging and treatment options. Secondly, I sought out o…

Successfully dealing with 5FU side effects
Going through treatment
Updated Nov 22, 2019I am now on my 110th cycle of chemo, mostly FOLFIRI (5FU, or fluorouracil, plus irinotecan, with leukovorin as an adjuvant) but some FOLFOX too (5FU plus oxaliplatin). Every two weeks.
With the help of my team – spouse as caregiver, all those at CINJ – I no longer have mouth sores, do not experience constipation, do not lose 5 lbs or more fro…

Srage IV metastatic lung cancer. Spread to bones and liver.
Going through treatment
Added Sep 15, 2019Tumors on liver have finally responded favorably from chemo. Shrank more than half there size. All other is stable. First positive news in a long time. Actually when I was told I was so surprised I got good news I didn’t even react. I was in disbelief but very happy. I know I can’t be cured but cherish any extra time to be with my family.

Stage 4 No More
Just some thoughts
Updated Aug 20, 2019In November 2015 I was diagnosed with Stage 4, Triple Positive, Invasive Ductal Metastatic Breast Cancer. I had a LOT of bone involvement, tumors in my liver and LOTS of lymph nodes. My PET scan looked like a Christmas Tree. Cancer - The Secret Change
Living with cancerThis article, so very well written by a practicing oncologist, is superb! Dr. Salwitz truly captures the feelings that I (and probably thousands of other cancer patients) have. Cancer does suck! My cancer is rare. It grows slowly, but it grows. I do not “look like I have cancer.” I hear so often,“You really look great.” The problem is I …

It is what it is. Might as well find some humor in your journey.
Living with cancer
Updated Oct 26, 2013I was diagnosed last February (2013) with stage IV lung cancer. A shock to me, needless to say, as a non-smoker. Unless of course you count those funny things I smoked back in college 40 years ago.
Besides the support of family and friends, I have found keeping my sense of humor throughout my journey has been the best medicine, other than the…

A Summary of My Chemo Experience
What I've learned
Added Jan 7, 2010This is a summary of the chemo treatment I survived. I have never experienced anything like this. Radiation, and even surgery, was a breeze in comparison:
6 treatments, one every 21 days:
- for each treatment, Brad and I were there 2.5 to 4 hours (always had the bloodwork and meeting with the doctor a day or 2 before treatment)
- #2 …
